Contra Dances (9:15 pm Friday and 10:00 pm Saturday)
Can you count to eight and walk in time to music? If so, check out the contra dances after both evening concerts. Contra dancing is a traditional form of social dance that uses some of the same moves as square dancing (e.g., swing, dos-a-do), but is done in lines. It requires no fancy footwork and all dances are taught by a caller. We welcome people of all ages and ability levels from the surrounding community, so come out even if you know nothing about contra dancing. You'll learn very quickly. No partner is necessary. A live acoustic folk band provides the music, which is of Celtic, French-Canadian, and early-American origins. Click

No other events will be scheduled concurrently with the dances, so everyone is encouraged to attend. On Friday night you will have the opportunity to dance to some of our best contra bands in the area. Saturday afternoon will feature a workshop on playing in a contra dance band, and at the evening dance workshop attendees will be able to try out some of the skills they learned by performing with the open band.
